In 1715, while the world’s great imperial powers were signing peace treaties with the West Indies, pirates controlled the Caribbean and had created their own republic where corruption, greed and cruelty reigned. Edward Kenway, born in England in 1693, was keen to find both freedom and adventure and thus decided to leave a life of tilling the British soil and head for the Caribbean. Edward eventually found his way onto a ship commanded by corsair Benjamin Hornigold, but it wasn’t long before the peace treaties encouraged him to become a pirate proper, with no laws to trouble him. Although guided solely by his desire for glory and fortune, Edward became embroiled in the age-old conflict opposing Assassins and Templars.
